A book on contagion is certainly welcome right now; we have a lot to understand about how diseases spread. And author Adam Kucharski IS an epidemiologist, but his new book The Rules of Contagion: Why Things Spread--and Why They Stop goes beyond microbes.

Because the concept of things "going viral" in our time goes beyond biology, to things like funny cat videos and distinctly un-funny conspiracy theories.

The process of spreading, physically and psychically, is examined in our chat with the author.
