A number of new laws have been passed in recent years that do not stop us from consuming animal products, but make life a little better for the animals. Case in point: California will have only eggs from cage-free chickens in 2022.

The move toward more humane treatment of animals comes as we learn more about animals and their capabilities. Ingrid Newkirk, founder and president of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), details some of the recent animal discoveries in the book Animalkind: Remarkable Discoveries About Animals and Revolutionary New Ways to Show Them Compassion.

The book details choices consumers can make to be friendlier toward animals. Ingrid Newkirk is our guest.
