Exploring The Microbiome (Eew)

Don't look now, but your body is carrying some passengers.  By the millions. 

We're just beginning to understand the importance of the microbiome in humans--the bacteria in and on our bodies that make processes like digestion move along smoothly. 

The relationships between hosts and microbes are the bread and butter of The Microbial Ecology and Theory of Animals (META) Center for Systems Biology at the University of Oregon.  Dr. Karen Guillemin directs the center and gives us a basic understanding of the research done there.
