Enrollment for health insurance coverage in 2020 through the Affordable Care Act ends Sunday at midnight.
Oregon currently has 160,000 people with no health insurance, and who are eligible for government subsidies under the Affordable Care Act. But finding the best plan often depends on more than getting the cheapest rate.
“There’s a lot of focus on your monthly premium, but another thing to be aware of is your deductible, and know that your best options might be a plan with slightly higher monthly premiums, but lower cost-sharing,” Rachel Fehr with the Kaiser Family Foundation says.
Fehr says that 82 percent of ACA enrollees in Oregon have at least three different insurers to choose from. Anybody making under $50,000 dollars annually can qualify for help with their premium. Fehr says many people could be eligible for free coverage. She says 28 percent of people could qualify for a Bronze plan, “which is the most basic level of coverage available on the ACA marketplaces for no monthly premium.”
Meanwhile, Fehr says the majority of rates for A.C.A plans this year are cheaper and the number of providers has increased. That means Oregonians can get better coverage for less money than in previous years. For more information, visit healthcare.oregon.gov.
