The West Coast’s only Republican in statewide office could be headed to a post with the Biden administration.

CNN is reporting that Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman is likely to be named to a top election security role in the Department of Homeland Security.

According to CNN, Wyman would join the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Her job would be to protect future elections from foreign and domestic interference.

Wyman has gained national attention for her defense of mail-in voting. In anAugust 2020 interview with NPR, Wyman responded to a pre-election tweet from then President Donald Trump that said vote-by-mail would make the 2020 election “the most inaccurate and fraudulent election in history.”

“It concerns me because I think it really shatters people’s confidence in the process and if voters don’t believe the election was fair they don’t believe the results and ultimately that means they don’t believe the people who won the election were legitimately elected,” she said.

Wyman’s office said it cannot confirm CNN’s reporting. Biden administration officials also would not confirm the CNN report, which was based on unnamed sources.
