Beekeepers Breed Region-Specific Queens For The Northwest

Beekeeping is an up-and-coming hobby in the Pacific Northwest. Lots of people are applying for permits and plenty more are flying below the radar with unpermitted backyard beehives.

And even though the practice has been around for more than 4000 years, there are some new innovations in the world of beekeeping.

Jaymee Cuti and Julie Sabatier of the public radio show Destination DIY, talked to some Portlanders who are breeding their own queen bees, specifically for the Northwest climate.
