Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, "Moving Pictures: A Survey Exhibition of Works by Deborah Oropallo and Collaborators." Opening April 18 at 5 p.m., the exhibition invites art enthusiasts to delve into the captivating world of Deborah Oropallo and witness her artistic evolution spanning montage, sculpture, installation, and media work.
More than just a retrospective, "Moving Pictures" amplifies Oropallo's artistic journey, shedding light on her significant contributions to contemporary art. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1954, Oropallo received her BFA from Alfred University and her MA/MFA from the University of California at Berkeley. Initially trained as a painter, she seamlessly integrates mixed media techniques such as photomontage, video, printmaking, and painting into her practice.

Come see the incredible sculpture of 2 dynamic artists. Claire B. Jones, from Washington, takes her colorful cloth and creative stitching sculptures to new heights. These 3D sculptures surround you with light as you follow the twirls and swirls of her artwork. Running concurrently are the works of Melissa Thompson from Montana. Melissa creatures fantasy animals using fiber and mosaics, on her taxidermy art. The playful colors and textures will draw you into a world of creativity.
Come experience the history, flora and fauna of Lithia park in a guided tour led by knowledgeable and passionate volunteers.
Walks run every Saturday morning at 10:00am, May through September. Walks last between 60 and 90 minutes, are free of charge, and are open to locals and visitors alike.
Please meet your guide at the front entrance of Lithia Park across from the Plaza.
This program has been running since 1989, and is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Ashland's crown jewel.

Saturday, May 18 at the Railroad Park Gazebo (starting at 10:30 am), there will be Historic Preservation awards and Public Art recognitions; remarks by the Mayor; followed by a one hour walking tour led by Peter Finkle, to see and learn about the five new historic sidewalk medallions. One of the five bronze medallions honors the Wong family and Ashland's small Chinese community at the time.

Southern Oregon Stitchers is a chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America. It is a non profit organization whose goal is to educate the public about stitching and embroidery. We hold a monthly meeting that offers opportunities to learn all forms of embroidery in a friendly and sociable atmosphere with refreshments, raffles, and updates on the organization’s activities followed by members showing off their finished work. Each moth a program is offered that teaches a new project with various stitches and techniques.
Join us for free, hands-on basic bike maintenance skills taught by an experienced mechanic. Perfect for beginners! Bring your bike and learn some tuning techniques, receive a free safety check, and socialize with other riders.
