Should Animals Have Rights?
Should Animals Have Rights?
Do animals have rights? What responsibilities do we humans have toward the animals we keep? Howard (Howdy) Miller, DVM will provide his perspective on these issues. Many of us think of companion animals as family members, but the perspectives of farmers, ranchers and modern large agricultural corporations would likely be very different. Should animals have legal rights? If so, how should we go about determining what they are? Should the humane treatment of animals be based on concepts other than legal rights? Dr. Miller founded the Bear Creek Animal Clinic in Ashland and worked and volunteered as a large animal veterinarian in the US and internationally, including in China and India.
This event is part of the Salon series of The Jefferson Center (www.thejeffcenter.org), a Rogue Valley non-profit focused on critical thinking using secular humanist values to understand and engage with issues important to our community.
