Shorebirds and Condors in Humboldt County
Shorebirds and Condors in Humboldt County
Spend two days in the field learning first-hand about shorebirds, the majestic California condor, and other species of interest. Visit various shorebird habitats from Trinidad to Eureka, including rocky shoreline, sandy beach, mudflat, and riverine gravel bar, learning how to distinguish various species from one another, and discussing their ecology and evolutionary relationships. Outings will be near the peak of shorebird migration, and over 20 species are expected. Then head to the Bald Hills of northeast Humboldt searching for condors in the newly reintroduced population. Other species of the upland prairies will be appreciated as well – including possibilities such as Sooty Grouse, Willow Flycatcher, White-breasted Nuthatch, House Wren, Chipping Sparrow, and MacGillivray’s Warbler.
