Rally for Old-Growth Forests

Rally for Old-Growth Forests

The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is hosting a public meeting about their proposed amendments to the Northwest Forest Plan on January 29th at the Medford Interagency Office. The Forest Service proposed amendments would slash environmental protections and double logging levels on mature and old growth forests on federal lands in the Pacific Northwest. Environmental organizations in southwest Oregon are calling on the Forest Service to strengthen protections for mature and old-growth forests for the benefit of wildlife habitat, rare species, wildfire resiliency and climate protection. If you've ever sat in awe under a towering old-growth tree and enjoyed its grandeur, you can likely thank the Northwest Forest Plan that the tree still stands. Let's keep the Northwest Forest Plan protections for mature and old-growth forests strong for future generations!

The RALLY FOR OLD-GROWTH FORESTS will take place before the Forest Service meeting, 5-6 PM, in front of the Medford Interagency Office, alongside Biddle Road. Come with signs that support protections for old-growth forests! This will be a positive, supportive rally to encourage the Forest Service to strengthen, NOT weaken, the Northwest Forest Plan to truly protect and save the last remaining old-growth forests we have left on our National Forests.

The RALLY FOR OLD-GROWTH FORESTS is sponsored by the following organizations: Applegate Siskiyou Alliance, Deer Creek Association, Great Old Broads for Wilderness, the Oregon Chapter of the Sierra Club, Wellington Wildlands Council, and Williams Community Forest Project.

The Forest Service's public meeting takes place after the rally, 6-8pm inside the Medford Interagency Office. For more information from the Forest Service about their Northwest Forest Plan amendments and the public meetings, click on this link: https://shorturl.at/VaBUr
