Never Touch the Money Question

Never Touch the Money Question

Tom Woosnam, retired science teacher and current OLLI instructor, will join The Jefferson Center in a discussion about the nature of money. We all need money to function in modern society. But what is money, and what is the source of its value? Tom will start off the discussion with a brief history of why we have money, its multifaceted forms and purposes, what makes money legitimate, and how banks fit into the picture. We'll compare and contrast household budgets with Federal Government budgets, examining concerns like: “Paying for programs we want.”, “Controlling the deficit.”, and “Balancing the budget." Can the federal government go bankrupt like households?

This event is part of the Salon series of The Jefferson Center (www.thejeffcenter.org), a Rogue Valley non-profit focused on critical thinking using secular humanist values to understand and engage with issues important to our community.
