National Public Lands Day
National Public Lands Day
Join the Bureau of Land Management and the Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument for National Public Lands Day and make a difference! We’re coming together at Hyatt Lake Recreation Area on Saturday, September 23. This year, our mission is fence repair to safeguard sensitive habitats from off-highway vehicles. Come be a part of this important conservation effort and help preserve our public lands for future generations.
Afterwards, we will head to Vesper Meadow to celebrate with other National Public Lands Day volunteers from 1:30-4pm where there will be lunch, music and more provided by the Public Lands Store!
We will meet at Rite Aid in Ashland at 9:00 am and carpool up to the event site. We will work until 1:15pm and then head to Vesper Meadow for lunch and festivities. There will be the option to come back straight from Hyatt Lake if you need to get back to Ashland by 2pm.
There are no special skills or experience needed to participate in the fence repair. The fence is wooden and is constructed of long poles bolted horizontally to shorter poles that are bolted together in an “a-frame” that rests on the ground. The BLM will provide the tools, safety equipment, and guidance. Please wear close-toed shoes, long pants and bright colored clothes as it will be hunting season. Also, bring water and snacks and/or lunch.
We hope to see you there!
