Homelessness in Our Region
Homelessness in Our Region
Echo Fields, retired SOU professor of sociology and Chair of the Ashland Housing and Human Services Advisory Committee, will join the Jefferson Center for a discussion of Homelessness in our Region. Most everyone wants to solve homelessness, but there is little agreement as to what actions should be taken. The Jefferson Center discussion will focus on problems in gathering reliable data on the homeless population; how this information relates to stereotypes about homelessness; and what changes in our social systems will help reduce homelessness. Changing intersecting social systems will be hard. Given a better understanding of the issue, what actions can individuals and non-profit organizations undertake to move toward a solution?
This event is part of the Salon series of The Jefferson Center (www.thejeffcenter.org), a Rogue Valley non-profit focused on critical thinking using secular humanist values to understand and engage with issues important to our community.
