Beekman House Victorian Fashion Tours

Beekman House Victorian Fashion Tours

What would a “proper” Victorian wear to make or receive a social call? Attend a formal dinner? Enjoy an afternoon in the country? Learn the answers between 12n and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17, when Historic Jacksonville, Inc. offers Beekman House tours of “The Well Dressed Victorian,” highlighting fashions from the 60+ years of England’s Queen Victoria’s reign!
No clothing style in history is as popular as Victorian Era fashion, and each room of the house will feature docents and mannequins costumed in appropriate styles from the Civil War to the early 1900s depicting fashions for social calls, travel, daytime activities, formal dinners, mourning, country outings, servants, undergarments, and more.
Docents will be both showing and describing Victorian fashion and its evolution on one-hour tours beginning every 20 minutes—first tour at 12n; last tour at 3pm. Tour admission is $10. Tour size is capped at 8 people and reservations are encouraged. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.historicjacksonville.org/victorian-theme-tours/. “Walk ups” will be accommodated based on space available.
The 1870s Beekman House Museum is located at 470 E. California Street in Jacksonville. For additional information, contact 541-245-3650 or info@historicjacksonville.org.
