Oregon now has “B” on the influential Report Card on State Price Transparency Laws for health care. That’s up from a flat failing grade for years’ past.
One reason for the improvement is the Oregon Hospital Guide score card. A website allows health care consumers to research and compare costs for most inpatient and outpatient procedures at every hospital in the state.
Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems spokesman, Phillip Schmidt
“So it gives folks, a clearer picture sense of the full cost of a procedure at an Oregon hospital,” says Schmidt. “Of course, what folks are gonna be on the hook for depends on their insurance coverage. It gives an ability to look at the same procedure at various hospitals and get a sense of what the different hospitals are receiving from insurers.”
The website, https://oregonhospitalguide.org/ shows the median amount paid by commercial insurers including deductibles and co-pays. Schmidt says every Oregon hospital has committed to providing cost estimates for scheduled hospital services within three business days.
