Film Student Wants To Put The Modoc War Onscreen

Eadward Muybridge/California Historical Society

It was a major draw for the news media of the day, but the Modoc War of 1872-73 is not well known outside the Klamath Basin, where it took place.

A film project proposes to change that, to broaden the knowledge of a pivotal moment in the driving of indigenous Americans from their native lands.

"This Land is Their Land" is proposed as a short film, a senior thesis project for Cal State-Northridge student Michael O'Leary. He and producer Román Zaragoza pause their pre-production work to talk about the film, its goals, and what it will take to complete it. Shooting begins the weekend of April 24-25.
