You seldom hear people use the term "oriental" anymore, because the term has been displaced by the non-pejorative and more factually accurate "Asian."
The old term is turned on its head by the DisOrient Asian American Film Festival based in Eugene, which screens films by and about Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander descent, March 19-28.
Like so many other festivals, DisOrient is online this year, with an array of films to see. Some go directly to the very current issue of anti-Asian sentiments in the body politic.
Susan Hirata is the organizer of the festival, and our guest.
