Much has been written about the aborted Antarctic mission of Ernest Shackleton and his shipmates in the early 20th century. Despite losing their ship, they survived to tell their story.

Andrea Pitzer takes us takes us 300 years further back in time in her book Icebound: Shipwrecked at the Edge of the World. The book tells the story of the Dutch explorer William Barents, who was seeking a new trade route to the Far East. Through the Arctic.
