A lot more people know what Juneteenth is this year. And that's partly due to President Trump's decision to hold his first-in-months campaign rally on June 19th, the anniversary of the day former slaves were told in 1865 that they were free.
The Trump rally moved a day later, and Juneteenth observances will go on around the country, albeit within physical distancing limits.
The group Amplifying Melanated Voices plans events in Ashland and Medford on Friday and Grants Pass on Saturday.
And the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, idled by the pandemic but still producing online, offers its own celebration on its digital channel, "O!" and on other online platforms.
