How Diversity Initiatives Wandered Off-Mission

Diversity is a big deal in the world today.  Organizations large and small work to broaden both the diversity of their staffs and the clients they serve.  They try, anyway.

Journalist Pamela Newkirk questions how hard, in a book called Diversity, Inc.: The Failed Promise of a Billion-Dollar Business.  Newkirk points out how much money is spent hiring CDOs (Chief Diversity Officers), running training seminars, launching initiatives, and more, with slower progress than many people hoped for.  We take up the topic in this hour of The Exchange.
