Payday Loans Dropped During The Pandemic, But Californians Are ‘Not Out Of The Woods’
A new report found a dramatic decrease in Californians’ reliance on payday loans as a direct result of pandemic-related government assistance, including unemployment benefits, rent relief, eviction moratoriums, stimulus checks and loan forbearance. But experts warn that use of payday loans is expected to rebound once government assistance ends.
Pool Toys are Contaminating Waterways With Glitter and Microplastics
As we move into August, some people are tempted to bring pool floaties and other plastic pool toys to lakes and rivers. Researchers at UC Davis are urging people to leave those floaties at home. If the toys rip or break, their glitter and microbeads are like a microplastic bomb that's impossible to clean up.
