The Oregon Department of Human Services Tuesday announced that it is mailing notices to more than 600,000 people, notifying them that their personal information was compromised during a data breach earlier this year.
The data breach took place in January when nine DHS employees clicked on an emailed link which may have allowed hackers to access about 2 million emails.
Most information in the security breach was in email attachments. The emails contained information like names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers.
DHS is providing a year of identity theft monitoring and a $1 million insurance reimbursement policy to individuals who were affected.
The department said it will begin sending the notices June 19 to individual people about how to enroll in the identity theft monitoring service.
