Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will be in Springfield, Oregon Thursday. He’ll be at Island Park for a noon rally. Sanders has been to Portland a couple of times during his campaign, drawing large crowds.
University of Oregon student Xander Berenstein is a Sanders supporter. He says it makes sense that the candidate would come here.
“Given the fact that Oregon is so progressive," Berenstein says. "And actually Bernie Sander’s son Levi Sanders is a U of O alum. So yeah we were expecting, at least I personally was expecting Bernie Sanders to come here, the question just was when.”
The campaign says Sanders will discuss a range of issues including getting big money out of politics and making public colleges and universities tuition free. The event is free and open to the public.
