Former Governor Kitzhaber Releases Second Video

Why I Resigned as Governor - John Kitzhaber Posted by John A. Kitzhaber on Thursday, April 7, 2016

Former Gov. John Kitzhaber released another video to his Facebook page Thursday, this time answering a question about his resignation.

Kitzhaber, who resigned Feb. 18, 2015, after allegations that he sought to destroy government emails that contained details about his fiancee’s consulting work, introduced his Facebook page March 18, with a video of him saying that he could no longer allow his career and reputation to be defined by media “that from the start has been long on speculation and short on facts.”

This time, the former governor said he was speaking out because supporters continue to ask him why he resigned, when he believed he was innocent.

“I want to start by saying very emphatically that my decision to step down was in no way an admission of guilt.”
