*Position Description:The student will assist in producing The Jefferson Exchange, JPR's daily, two-hour live interview public radio program broadcast over JPR's News and Information Service. The Jefferson Exchange features daily guests and invites listener participation with the goal of promoting interactive discussion and stimulating constructive civic discourse. Program topics range from public policy issues to personal improvement methods, with audience participation providing diverse viewpoints across the region in which the program is broadcast. The student will:
• Operate an audio control board and associated audio equipment during live broadcast of the program (as competency allows)
• Assist with regular maintenance of the program’s website (www.jeffexchange.org) and social media pages (Facebook and Twitter)
• Voice weather forecasts (as competency allows)
• Record the program and associated promotional announcements
• Edit archived programs for future broadcast
• Publish the program’s podcast and program segments to the JPR and NPR websites
*Qualifications:Required:
• Solid writing, communications, and organizational skills
• Computer literacy
• An interest in news, journalism, communications, political science or emerging media
Desired:
• Prior radio or reporting experience
• Audio editing skills using Adobe Audition or similar audio/video editing software
• Clear, pleasant speaking voice
• Familiarity with website content management system
