JPR Classics Live: Ching-Yun Hu

The Taiwanese-American pianist was in Ashland as part of the Tutunov Piano Series at the Oregon Center for the Arts at SOU, performing an all-Liszt concert.

Hailed by Philadelphia Inquirer as “first class talent," Ching-Yun Hu is an artist in residence and faculty at Philadelphia's Temple University. She first moved to moved to the U.S. at the age of 14 to further her musical studies, and made her Lincoln Center recital debut in 2007. Since that time, she has continued to perform at prestigious concert halls and music festivals around the world, and now leads a pair of music festivals of her own creation.

During our session, Hu spoke about the continued fascination we have in watching young prodigies, how each of her many teachers have given her valuable instruction on how to to be a fully formed artist, and the composer she feels best understood the piano. She also performed a few of her favorite pieces for us.
