FRIDAY, AUGUST 21, 11 AM ... The four fires of the Gasquet Complex in Del Norte County have grown from approximately 3,000 acres to over 12,000 acres over the past seven days.
The fires, which were started by lightning three weeks ago, have not damaged structures or closed Highway 199. There have been no evacuations.
Containment has dropped due to spread of the Peak Fire (approximately 4,000 acres).

A PUBLIC MEETING will be held TONIGHT, 7 PM, at the RV Park in Hiouchi.
The entrance to Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park will be CLOSED at the junction of Highway 199 and South Fork Road. Howland Hill Road in Crescent City will remain open for park visitors (however, visitors can not proceed past Stout Grove).
The southwest corner of the Coon Fire ( approximately 4,400 acres) continues to burn downhill to the South Fork of the Smith River near Paradise Flat. The South Fork is being used as a natural containment line.
Activity increased yesterday as an inversion lifted. The decrease in containment reflects a spread of the Peak Fire, as well as burning operations being conducted on the Bear and Coon fires.
Structure protection teams are in place at Paradise Flat, Tollefson Road, and Rock Creek.
