Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon Spring Concert Series Performance

The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon’s (YSSO) 2024-2025 Concert Season concludes with performances on May 17 and on May 18. The final concert is a 3PM performance on Sunday, May 18 at the Craterian Theater at the Collier Center in Medford. Tickets are $15 (adult) and $10 (students w/I.D.) and are available through the Craterian box office (541-779-3000).

The featured Youth Symphony work on the program is Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85 (mvts. I & II) with 2025 Concerto Competition winner Samuel Severson. The Youth Symphony will also play The Mission - NBC Theme by John Williams, Concert Suite by Alan Silvestri from the film “The Polar Express,” and an arrangement of selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical The Phantom of the Opera. The Youth Orchestra will play music from James Horner’s score for the film “Apollo 13” as well as Raiders March from John Williams’ score for the film “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” The Youth Orchestra and Youth Symphony will combine to present an arrangement of music from the film “Star Wars – The Force Awakens” also by John Williams.

The May 18 concert marks Cynthia Hutton’s final performance as Music Director & Conductor of the YSSO. Dr. Hutton will retire at the conclusion of the season after 30 years of distinguished service. The YSSO will also honor graduating seniors at the concert.
