Grace Before Sleep is a concert about dreams and having the tenacity to follow them, even in the midst of trials. The fragility of roses, the passing from night to dawn, and the transformational power of love and music poetically lead the listener on a journey which ends in gratitude and joy.
Featured works include:
Hymn to St.Cecilia by Benjamin Britten
Even when he is silent by Kim André Arnesen
Grace before sleep by Susan LaBarr
Chansons des Roses by Morten Lauridsen
Had I the Cloths of Heaven by Jodi French
Geoffrey Riley reprises the role of Mozart for two of Mozart’s most impressive choruses, and a set of American folk songs highlighted by Dolly Parton’s “Light of a clear blue morning” brings us to Ricky Ian Gordon’s jubilant setting of Langston Hughes’ optimistic poem, “Joy”.
