David Safhay's new show "From The Ashes" highlights his recent work inspired by the graceful ash. The Grey Ash trees have been wiped out of our landscapes by the Emerald Ash Borer. Safhay has devoted his show to celebrate their memory. Many of his works here were made from or inspired by these graceful trees. As in his festooned and bunting draped "Glory To The Ash", or a tribute piece, "Arp in Ash", many of the works in this show celebrate the mighty ash. This tree is the subject or the substance of his favored medium, Assemblage. Its blonde, striated grain and hardness were perfect properties for fashioning his original work.
