Coastal Geology Tour

Coastal Geology Tour

Get ready to learn about an area so complex that even geologists disagree as to where the Siskiyou Mountains end and where the generally more recent Franciscan begins (or whether it’s a part of the Siskiyous altogether). We’ll go coastal from the OR/CA border to just south of Gold Beach to find out when or if the Siskiyous stopped growing, why they are uplifting and moving north, and how California and Oregon geologists duke it out and what that tells us regarding why the Far West has doubled in girth in the last half billion years. Find pillow basalts, debris flows, clastic dikes, kinky folds, and dirty sandstones in unmorphed mint condition. Ages 12+ welcome.
