Clayfolk is excited to be continuing our tradition of having a yearly pottery show & sale. This year it will take place in the heart of Talent’s downtown where the Almeda fired burned through last fall. Over a dozen Clayfolk artists will fill the parking lot of the historic Malmgren Garage building at 111 Talent avenue with their clay work. The show will be held on Saturday October 23 from 10 am to 4 pm (rain or shine). Please stop by to enjoy the show and the local food truck Wake ‘N Bake. In recognition of the Almeda fire and our show location we decided to call the show “Out of the Fire” and make a donation to a selected organization helping fire victims. As ceramic artists “fire” is how we transform sticky wet mud into our finished pieces, with most of us firing our kilns well over 2000 degrees. The 97-year-old Malmgren Garage was extensively damaged in the Almeda fire leaving just a skeleton of concrete walls. Originally built as a car service facility by Dr. Malmgren of Phoenix in 1924, it spent its first years as a repair garage. Other uses over the years included a lumber yard and fruit processing center. In 1979 Southern Oregon Pottery Supply moved in and spent the next 29 years in the building. Owner and clay artist Bonnie Morgan is excited to be in the process of doing a historic rebuild on Malmgren Garage.
