Chamber Players of the Redwoods proudly presents its 45th concert program Sunday, January 26th at the Lutheran Church of Arcata, 151 E. 16th St. The program begins at 2:00 pm. Chamber Players produces concert programs featuring the best in local musicians performing world-class music.
Featured will be the Zug Consort playing music of the Renaissance. The group includes Dr. Gilbert Cline on the rare slide trumpet backed by 5 trombones, oboe and percussion. Dr. Cline has done extensive research on this unusual instrument and has concluded that it was far more common during the Renaissance than previously known.
Next is Humboldt Harmoniemusik performing a 20th century piece for double wind quintet by Ruth Gipps. Gipps was prodigiously gifted English composer who began composing at age 8 and came into prominence in the years after the Second World War.
Finally Trombones @ 5 will delight the audience with several pieces arranged by retired Cal Poly music professor John Carr. Carr has been composing and arranging music for brass ensembles for many years
