Stop taking gneiss leaverites for granite by bringing your pet or mystery rock to SFI! Learn to identify rocks through simple ID methods with the help of a geologist. Common valley rocks will also be showcased as well as ones so rare rock-hounds closely guard their whereabouts. Then take to the field to see rocks in context: chilled dikes, pegmatites, and pillow basalt turbidites. Introduced with an online presentation on the rocks of the Illinois Valley.
