Wayfair Incorporated says it’ll open a new sales and service center later this spring.  The full-time jobs include customer service, sales, management, and HR positions that are actively recruiting.

Vonnie Mikkelsen is President and CEO of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.  She says this news is a win-win for the local economy.

“An employer who invests here and opens up some new jobs for people, whether that’s 10, 20, a hundred…or a significant number like Wayfair is bringing to the area, those folks have either been unemployed, or certainly even underemployed, meaning they’re working part-time or temporary jobs, and are looking for steady income at full-time positions...now they’re going to have an opportunity to do so.”

Wayfair employs nearly 11,000 people across North America and Europe.  Its net revenue last year surpassed $6 billion.  It competes with big box retailers and other sites like Amazon.

With an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent, Springfield lags a bit in jobs compared to the rest of Oregon.  So city officials are heralding the development.

Mikkelsen says recruitment for Wayfair workers is already underway.

“We’re completely confident that they’re looking at a strong talent pool and we’re ready and willing to step up and work together with our regional partners to make some good hires for the company.”

The 52,000-sq. ft. Wayfair sales and service center will be located on the new PacificSource business campus.
