Eugene’s housing market is tight. As the city looks to future population growth, it’s trying to prepare for even more demand. Eugene seeks public input on options for Multi-family housing.
The City of Eugene wants help as it adopts a new Urban Growth Boundary. City planner Terri Harding says in the next 20 years, Eugene’s population is expected to grow by 34-thousand people.
“So we actually need a lot of housing over those 20 years. We need about 15,000 new homes. And most of those, about 90% can fit inside the existing urban growth boundary, on vacant lots or undeveloped land across the city.”
The city seeks to accommodate multi-family housing—apartments, townhouses, duplexes. This month, there will be several public drop-in sessions to talk about the future of Eugene’s housing. There’s also an online survey at the city’s website.
