Oregon Republican delegates arriving for their national convention in Cleveland say they think the party is unifying after a fractious primary season.

The Oregon delegates appear to be lining up behind Donald Trump, cheering Sunday when they heard how a rules challenge to Trump's nomination was squelched last week.

Many of the state's 28 delegates have expressed skepticism about Trump in the past. But as the convention opens Monday, they are now more apt to express cautious or even enthusiastic optimism about his chances.

Delegate and state Rep. Greg Baretto said Republicans have struggled to agree on a nominee more than they did in 2012. But he said he’s come to accept Trump as a better alternative than Democrat Hillary Clinton.

“I don’t know that there is the excitement that there was four years ago, but I think there is the building of unity,” he said.

The Oregon delegates met at their hotel in suburban Akron, about 30 miles from Cleveland.
