Two more Oregon athletes are going to Rio. Former Duck Jenna Prandini hit the ground at the finish line, but she came in 3rd in the 200 meter women’s final, making the Olympic team Sunday.
Jenna Prandini is going to Rio to compete in the 200 meter race along with Deajah Stevens, a U of O sophomore, and Tori Bowie, who came in first. Prandini seemed to dive for the finish line, beating out Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix by one one hundredth of a second. After the race, Prandini said she wasn’t sure if she dove or stumbled.
Prandini: “I didn’t intentionally go for it. But it was a fight to the finish, that’s for sure.”
Prandini graduated from the U of O earlier this year. She lives and trains in Eugene. She gave props to the Hayward Field crowd.
Prandini: “We always say there’s Hayward magic and to step on the line and know that you’re a former Duck. The fans are just so loud and so supportive.”
Prandini, Bowie and Stevens are all first time Olympians. It was a surprise that veteran Olympian Allyson Felix didn’t make the 200 team. But, she will be running in the 400 meter race in Rio.
