The University of Oregon Women’s Golf Team made it to the semifinals at the NCAA Championships underway at the Eugene Country Club. They lost to UCLA Tuesday. The men’s competition gets underway Thursday.

It’s not the first time Eugene has hosted the NCAA Golf Championships. But, UO Assistant Athletic Director Craig Pintens says it’s been more than 50 years since the last time. He says the UO women did well on their home turf, making it to the final 8 teams in the competition. Pintens has high hopes for the men.
Pintens: “The Oregon men have an outstanding opportunity here to compete for a national championship. They have an outstanding individual player in Aaron Wise who’s the number 6 ranked amateur in the world. Essentially, he’s the best 19-year-old on the planet because everybody ahead of him is older than him.”
Pintens says it’s great to have the Eugene Country Club showcased on national TV. Locals can check out the competition this weekend in person. The Prefontaine Classic is also happening this weekend at Hayward Field.
