Sanders Supporters Kick Off Oregon Campaign In Eugene

The Bernie Sanders Presidential campaign opened its first Oregon headquarters in Eugene Saturday.

People packed a former church in South Eugene.

Oregon State Director for the Sanders campaign Monte Jarvis called on supporters to get people registered to vote as Democrats so they can vote for Sanders in the May 17th primary. Jarvis says there’s been incredible support from Eugene.

Jarvis: “It just made sense that it happen here. The energy is unbelievable.”

And that’s why they opened the headquarters here

University of Oregon student Corinne Ellis says she likes Sander’s push for free college tuition.

Ellis: “So seeing him fighting for students and saying everyone has the right to an education is just so moving and so powerful.”

Sanders supporters plan to go door to door in the next few weeks before the April 26th Oregon voter registration deadline. The Sanders campaign hasn’t said whether Bernie himself will come to Eugene. His son, Levi, went to the U of O, so he does have ties here.
