The fiancé of former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber is working as a freelance journalist for a new magazine based in Bend, Oregon.
Cylvia Hayes confirmed on her Facebook page last week that she’ll be writing for Issue Magazine. Hayes' position at the magazine was first reported by Willamette Week.
The new publication plans to have a launch party Jan. 28. It describes itself as the “Rolling Stone" of the Northwest on its Facebook page.
We have finally done it. WE have created the ROLLING STONE of the Pacific Northwest! Sexy, edgy, informative,...
"We want to write provocative content that makes people truly stop and think...or change!" Issue stated on its website. "We want to promote the change that's so desperately needed in this world on both a global and community level."
Hayes said her first story will be about a group of five Northwest activists who chained themselves to train tracks to stop oil train traffic.
On assignment for Issue Magazine covering the Delta 5 trial for five citizen advocates who blocked oil trains.
Hayes also continues to run her economic and environmental issues consulting firm, 3E Strategies.
In addition to Hayes, Issue Magazine lists nine other staff and freelance writers on its website, who cover topics ranging from outdoor sports to spirituality.
"We don't care if you have any writing experience," the magazine's staff wrote. "Our caveat is that you are willing to seriously bring a level of authenticity and hold nothing back, leave nothing on the table."
