An Oregon woman who was granted clemency by President Obama was released from a federal prison in California on Tuesday.
"She was so happy," said federal defender Steve Sady, who helped Angie Jenkins file her request for clemency. "She called from the road. Her family came to pick her up from prison and she is on her way to a halfway house."
He said Jenkins hopes to move in with her family shortly.
Jenkins was sentenced to 30 years for manufacturing methamphetamine. She served close to 17 years of her sentence.
The Obama administration says it wants to release people who were sentenced under old, harsher drug laws.
Thousands of federal inmates have applied for clemency.
Inmates who have served at least 10 years and demonstrated good conduct in prison are eligible. Obama has granted only a small fraction of the requests.
