A new affordable housing complex will have a grand opening Tuesday. The Bascom Village Phase 1 is in North Eugene.

The 10-point-5 million dollar project was built by St. Vincent de Paul with help from a large number of partner organizations. The 53-unit complex includes one, two, three and four bedroom apartments. In order to qualify, renters must make 50 percent or less of the area's medial income-- roughly $ 27 thousand for a family of four. Nora Cronin, Project Manager, says the waiting list had more than 250 names on it.
Cronin: "This was actually kind of a surprise for us. We did notice this is the first time that we opened a waiting list that we had people camped out for it. We've been seeing larger and larger demands for our units. Yeah, it's just kind of what's happening now that there's such a demand for apartments that are more affordable for people."
Renters will be moving into Bascom Village Phase 1 later this month. Phase 2 is scheduled to be complete in fall of 2016.
