U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory in Albany, Oregon.

A federal research lab in Albany, Oregon, was evacuated Tuesday morning as police investigated what officials called a "credible" bomb threat, but no explosives were found on site.

The National Energy Technology Laboratory, site of research into fossil energies, received the bomb threat at about 8 a.m. Tuesday, said spokeswoman Shelley C. Martin.

The Albany Police Department said a bomb squad searched the lab as a precaution, according to The Associated Press.

The lab, which is a part of the U.S. Department of Energy, employs 46 federal workers and about 80 contractors, not all of whom work on site. It occupies about 10 acres with a mix of office and research buildings located near several public schools.
