Renowned author and Merry Prankster Ken Kesey grew up in Springfield. The city recently commissioned a two-story, photo-realistic mural to honor their hometown son. As KLCC's Tiffany Eckert reports, the artwork encapsulates one of Kesey's passions---books.

Sunshine Kesey and her family provided the books from Ken's personal collection to be painted for the mural. His favorites? The classics: Steinbeck. Shakespeare. Becket.

Sunshine: "I'm hopeful that this will encourage people to explore some of these titles and learn a little bit about my dad--where he comes from philosophically through some of that. That's really what he wanted to do for people is to turn people on to new ideas and concepts. So,if this can do that he would be super gratified."

Ken Kesey's 99-year old mother still lives in Springfield. She'll see the larger than life mural of her son every time she passes by 346 Main Street.
