Lananna has been instrumental in bringing the U.S. Olympic Trials to Eugene's Hayward Field in 2008 and 2012. He also successfully led efforts to bring the world championships here in 2021.

Lananna says being selected as head coach for the Olympic team is a huge honor. He sees it as his number one accomplishment.

Lananna: "What I've tried to do throughout my career is create a platform for the athletes whether they're at the institution that I've been at or whether it's been on the national or international level for them to be successful. So, there's not that many people that get to be the head coach."

2016 will be a busy year for Vin Lananna. The Olympic Trials will be held at Hayward Field again.  He is the University of Oregon's Associate Athletic Director. He also leads Track Town U.S.A., the local organization behind major competitions at Hayward Field.
