Crews have cleared most of the snow from roadways in Oregon's mountain passes, but transportation officials are cautioning drivers to take their time.

Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Peter Murphy says when you're heading into the mountains, take your time and be prepared.

Murphy: "This time of year, people should always have their winter gear available and that includes chains, water and clothing in the car-- something to eat perhaps. Also, if there are kids coming along make sure they have something to do. It helps the driver control the environment within the car and then the driver has to look outside and try and deal with the environment outside the car as well."

Murphy says there's no new snow in the forecast for the next few days. But there are patches of ice on the roads.
