Public television host Rick Steves' next trip will take him to Oregon for a 10-city tour, starting Oct. 7. But he's leaving the camera crew to promote ballot Measure 91, which would allow adults to grow, possess and sell marijuana under state regulation.
"One thing I've learned in 30 years of travel is that treating marijuana as a crime does not work," Steves said in a press release. "A better approach is to regulate it, legalize it and tax it. I'm an advocate for better policy, and that's what Oregon will get once Measure 91 passes."
The PBS host is known for his travels throughout Europe and has penned a number of guides, but he's also a longtime advocate for marijuana legalization. The members of the statewide campaign for legalizing pot, Yes on 91, will accompany Steves at his appearances.
The Willamette Week reports that Stevens co-sponsered the 2012 Washington ballot initiative, Initiative 502, donating $350,000 to the campaign initiative.
Steves will travel to cities in western and Central Oregon, including Portland, Beaverton, Salem, Corvallis, Eugene, Medford, Ashland, Bend, The Dalles and Gresham.
