Cover Oregon Delays Governance Decision

The Cover Oregon board delayed a decision Thursday on whether to remain an independent organization or be absorbed into the state.

Following the failure of the , the board decided in April to let the federal government run future enrollments.

But now it's trying to decide whether the organization should remain independent or be run by a state agency.

Speaking after the board meeting, Cover Oregon executive director Aaron Patnode, said it's too soon to make a decision, "What became very apparent from both the stakeholder perspective and also the board member perspective that there was a need for more information, more time and making sure that we aren't rushing into a decision that we haven't fully vetted with our stakeholders and all of our partners," he said.

Citing a lack of public confidence in Cover Oregon's website, the board is considering setting up another site, what they're calling a landing place, for Oregonians to get coverage.

Almost 500,000 people enrolled to get health insurance under the new system. But Cover Oregon's problems mean many will have to re-enroll this winter to maintain that insurance.
