Move to Oregon where the summers are mild, they said. It'll be fun, they said.
But that doesn't seem to be the case this summer. The National Weather Service reports that temperatures through July and August broke all sorts of records statewide. The past two months were the warmest on record for Portland and Eugene.
Eugene experienced 30 days that reached 90 degrees or hotter this summer. The city hasn't had that kind of heat since 1958.
Portland lows were unusually high throughout August as well, at an average of 73.1 degrees. The average daily low for the summer has been 61.4 degrees, breaking a 2004 record.
In Salem, low temperatures averaged around 72.5 degrees, surpassing its 1967 record.
Medford has had the third hottest August documented since 1911. On Aug. 1, temperatures hit a whopping 102 degrees, the highest high of the summer in the city. This year has also been the second warmest for southern Oregon to date.
For eastern and central Oregon, July temperatures were above normal; Condon, Herminston, Monument, Pendleton and Redmond reached 100 and higher to hit new records in the region. Bend experienced its hottest summer on record and this was Pendleton's third warmest July documented.
While most of the warm summer temperatures are behind us, the National Weather Service says things could still heat up this weekend with temps reaching the 90s in some parts of the state.
